The great divide: rhamnolipids mediate separation between P. aeruginosa and S. aureus

چکیده
The interactions between bacterial species during infection can have significant impacts on pathogenesis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus are opportunistic pathogens that co-infect hosts cause serious illness. factors dictate whether one outcompetes the other or two coexist not fully understood. We investigated role of surfactants in these a surface enables P. to swarm. found swarms repelled by colonies clinical S. isolates, creating physical separation strains. This effect was abolished mutants were defective production phenol-soluble modulins (PSMs), which form amyloid fibrils around wild-type colonies. mechanism establishes using Imaging Reflected Illuminated Structures (IRIS), is non-invasive imaging method tracks flow produced . PSMs deflected surfactant flow, turn, altered direction swarms. These findings show rhamnolipids mediate , could facilitate coexistence species. Additionally, we number molecules swarms, consistent with deflection mechanism. include Bacillus subtilis surfactant, fatty acids oleic acid linoleic acid, synthetic lubricant polydimethylsiloxane. Lung inhibited swarm expansion altogether at higher concentration. Our results suggest major bacteria-bacteria bacteria-host relationships. In addition, our uncover responsible for development does rely solely sensing but instead based surfactant.

Antimicrobial Effects of Zinc Oxide and Silver Nitrate Nanoparticles on S. aureus, A. baumannii and P. aeruginosa
Background and Objective: Nanoparticles have been introduced as novel antimicrobial agents because of their properties that are different from their bulk properties. Present study was aimed to investigate antimicrobial activity of silver nitrate and zinc oxide nanoparticles against three main bacteria responsible for nosocomial infections, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and A. baumannii. Materials a...

متن کاملPseudomonas aeruginosa rhamnolipids disperse Bordetella bronchiseptica biofilms.
We have previously reported that the respiratory pathogen Bordetella bronchiseptica can form biofilms in vitro. In this report, we demonstrate the disruption of B. bronchiseptica biofilms by rhamnolipids secreted from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This suggests that biosurfactants such as rhamnolipids may be utilized as antimicrobial agents for removing Bordetella biofilms.
